Coenzyme Q-10 – Cancer Survivor Experience

We have visited many working colleagues that were recuperating in the hospital; little did we suspect that our very close friend being diagnosed with cancer. After an initial shock, we realized that we have to be strong in providing the support that she requires when dealing with cancer. Fortunately, her extended family members were there to support her in dealing with the many phrases of emotion of sadness, anger, anxiety, confused and fear. We started looking for more information in the internet, from cancer surviving friends and the hospitals that meet their expectations and affordability to treat her. During that time, we received many unsolicited advices and we must say that they were all well intended. While some advices created confusion, her family members made up their  mind to refer her to the main-stream medication in dealing with cancer. As the cancer cell was diagnosed to be fast growing, the surgery was immediately arranged after the confirmation was done by means of biopsies.

After the surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, she needs help to overcome fatigue and other side effects of the treatments. To stay healthy during the recovery, she exercises (qigong & at the gym), eats well, rests well and takes daily dosage of 360mg coenzyme Q-10 (reported effective dosage for cancer survivor) to strengthen the immune-system. With this discipline, we noticed the boost in her energy and that she was enjoying life again like before. As we are convinced with the potency of coenzyme Q-10, we thought it is meaningful to share the experience with you.

 What is Coenzyme Q-10?

It is a vitamin like compound and a strong antioxidant also known as ubiquinol-l0. While a small amount of this compound is found in food, our body also produces it naturally and it is mostly found in our organs, the heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas and with lowest in the lungs. As we grow older, the level of coenzyme Q-10 decreases and exposes us to the Free Radicals that cause damage to our body cells.

What made us to decide on Coenzyme Q-10?

After reading few health books, especially, “Miracle Cures” written by Jean Carpers and “Dismantling Cancer” by Francisco Contreras (MD), Jorge Barroso – Aranda (MD,PHD) and Daniel E. Kennedy, I embarked on my search for more information on the potency of  this powerful antioxidant and how it stimulates the immune system and increases resistance against diseases. In my search, I found that recent studies by researches at University of Miami, Florida reported coenzyme Q-10 alters bcl-2 in a manner that allows the cancer cell to kill itself without hurting the normal cells. (BCL-2 is a human proto-oncogene located on chromosome 18 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bcl-2). While I may have read many articles on the positive effects of coenzyme Q-10 and how it is used to complement the main-stream medications, it is important to note that my writing is not a medical advice and that you are advised to consult your own doctors or other qualified health professionals.
